Little Miami Half Marathon Registration Now Open

Registration for the Little Miami Half Marathon and 10K is now open. The race will celebrate its 8th year in Morrow, Ohio on Sunday, August 13, 2017. The 13.1 mile half marathon will kick off at 7:00 a.m. with the 10K to follow at 7:30 a.m. The Little Miami Half Marathon and 10K is a flat and fast scenic race run along the banks of the Little Miami River. The entire course is run on a shaded bike path, which is a big bonus during Ohio’s humid summer months.

The race starts and finishes in Morrow, OH, just a few miles east of King’s Island, and travels through South Lebanon and Kings Mills. Runners receive a technical running shirt in both men’s and women’s sizing, finishers medals for all runners, chip timing by Speedy Feet and great post race food at the finish. Last year, Josh Orway of Waynesville was the top finisher in 1:14:04, while Lizzie Gleason of Dayton won the women’s half marathon in 1:24:38. In total, 488 finishers completed the half marathon while 266 runners and walkers completed the 10k race.

The event benefits Friends of the Little Miami State Park and Ohio State Parks. The Friends is a nonprofit organization devoted to the preservation and enhancement of the Little Miami State Park. They assist park management with development planning, routine maintenance, capital improvements, safety concerns, parking issues and promotions.

A pre-race packet pickup will be held at Buckeye Running Company in Mason.

Little Miami Half Marathon Awarded RRCA State Championship

RRCAChamp-2015Runners competing in the Little Miami Half Marathon on Sunday, August 14 will be vying for a state title. The race has been awarded as Ohio’s Half Marathon Championship race by the Road Runners Club of America. Runners from throughout the state can race to see who the fastest half marathon runners are overall and in their respective age groups. The race will take place in Morrow, Ohio. Free elite entries are available.

“The race has gained a reputation for being a flat, fast course,” said Derek Griffiths, race director. “The size has grown from just 200 runners in our first year to more than 700 runners. We are excited to celebrate our seventh year.”

The RRCA will award custom medals to the top overall men’s and women’s winners, as well as the fastest masters (age 40-40), grand masters (age 50-59), and seniors (ages 60 and up). Founded in 1958, the Road Runners Club of America is the oldest and largest national association of running clubs, running events, and runners dedicated to promoting running as a competitive sport and as healthy exercise. The RRCA’s mission is to represent and promote the common interests of its member clubs, events, and individual runners through education, leadership, programs and other services.

Last year the race welcomed 750 finishers. Jeffrey Denny of Cincinnati was the winner on the quick course in 1:11:45. Thirty-four-year-old Flying Pig Marathon champion Amy Robillard took the women’s half marathon in 1:23:10.
